We ensure immediate collection, removal and disposal of asbestos waste from client’s location to landfill.
We use specially constructed air-tight sealed containers that are IMDG approved for the transportation of hazardous materials overseas. These containers can be dropped on site for long term projects.
We are licensed carriers of asbestos in the UK and Ireland. Our service includes a 24 hour rapid response unit for unexpected asbestos incidents
Asbestos Waste Collection Process
1) Asbestos Removal
Asbestos removal can take many different forms, including notified and non-notifiable projects, fly tipped waste or simply collection of materials which have already been stripped by others. Any asbestos which has been removed and left for collection needs to be in good condition to avoid the spread of contamination and ideally have been removed by a licensed asbestos contractor.
2) Waste Bagged
When removing asbestos from a site using an enclosure, waste materials are first placed in red 1000g polythene bags, sealed and put in the bag lock area. From the bag lock, all waste bags are wiped clean of any external debris and placed in clear 1000g polythene bags and sealed again before being placed either in an on-site asbestos skip, or secured in one of our vehicles prior to transfer to our headquarters for disposal. Asbestos waste is always double bagged for additional security to reduce the risk of fibres being released and spreading further contamination.
3) Waste Transferred
Bagged waste is transferred from a removal site either directly via a specialist skip, or carried to the nearest waste transfer facility. All of MCE’s vehicles and drivers carry a license to transport hazardous waste on the highway. This includes waste that we have removed ourselves, or collection of other waste in the case of fly-tipped collections.
4) Waste Placed in Asbestos Skip
Once waste has been removed and bagged it is then placed in secure skips. All waste is documented with consignment notes so we know where all waste has come from and weighed prior to placing in the skips. MCE Contract Services Ltd holds a license from the Environment Agency for the secure storage of both bonded and fibrous hazardous asbestos waste. Our license also means we can accept waste from pre-approved companies and organisations, and provide a safe, economical service to contractors and other companies within and outside the construction industry
5) Waste Disposed
Once waste has accumulated, the secure skips are removed by a separate environmental contractor for transfer to landfill. Due to the hazardous nature of asbestos and its natural resistance to chemicals and heat, this is currently the only way of safely disposing of any removed materials. Before transfer to landfill, all waste weights are checked against the records held my MCE by the Environment Agency as part of their audit process.
